All children are taught music once a week. The BBC Ten Pieces resources and the published scheme ‘Music Express’ are used to develop both musical skills and then to apply those skills imaginatively in their own compositions.
Year 5 and 6 have weekly instrumental lessons with a specialist teacher from the Leicestershire Music Service. This has included clarinet, ukulele and this year, the violin.
Children have opportunities to listen to live and recorded music and comment on what they have heard using musical terms. They are taught to use their voice with control when singing and learn how to read music. A range of classical and modern composers from around the world are studied.
