Geography

At Higham on the Hill, we provide a high-quality Geography curriculum, written by Geography specialists specifically for the pupils of schools in the RISE Academy Trust, which inspires a curiosity and fascination about the world. There are four strands in the curriculum: Locational Knowledge, Place Knowledge, Human and physical Geography and Geographical skills and fieldwork. The delivery of the geography curriculum is designed to equip our pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. In addition, it is important that our pupils appreciate and respect the wonderful world, which engender stewardship of their surroundings.

Pupils growing knowledge about the world, will help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. The curriculum offers opportunities for the pupils to learn about their local area, compare their life in this area with that in other regions in the United Kingdom and then to the rest of the world. This is done through teaching them to draw and interpret maps, developing research skills, investigation, analysis and problem solving.
