Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Knowledge Organisers

Knowledge organisers are an important tool used in our school to support pupils in developing secure understanding across the curriculum.

They can provide key facts, vocabulary, definitions and visuals that help children see the “big picture” of a topic while breaking learning down into manageable sections. By having essential information in one clear place, pupils are able to revisit and revise learning regularly, helping knowledge move from short-term to long-term memory.

Teachers may use knowledge organisers to introduce new topics and to highlight the most important content - or language - pupils need to know and remember. They may be referred to frequently during lessons to support discussion, retrieval practice and independent work. Pupils may be encouraged to use them at home to reinforce learning and to develop good study habits from an early age.

Knowledge organisers also support consistency across year groups and enable parents and carers to understand what children are learning in school. This shared approach helps everyone work together to support progress. Overall, knowledge organisers promote confidence, independence and deeper understanding by ensuring that key knowledge and vocabulary are revisited, practised and securely embedded.
