Mathematics is taught daily in all classes. Counting, number bonds and times tables skills are practised regularly at age appropriate levels. Calculation skills, in all four number operations are taught. Mental arithmetic skills are taught through lesson starters, throughout the school, and are revisited regularly.

We encourage children to see the relevance of mathematics to everyday life, making curriculum links where relevant.

We use White Rose Maths to embed skills, encourage reasoning and problem solving. Additional “talking maths” sessions are used to allow the children to critical think, ask questions and explain their reasoning.

Use of the correct mathematical vocabulary is taught and modelled throughout their learning journey.
